Advocacy

We are actively involved in national legislative affairs and advocacy to uphold biomedical research initiatives. Our passion for dental research can make a difference when we elevate the industry.

Together we can drive the agenda forward

We collaborate with numerous medical organizations to advocate for sustainable and adequate investments in broadly, as well as focuses specifically on the need for increased commitment to dental research within various federal agencies.

Our team sets an annual federal agenda and coordinate the advocacy activities of the organization. However, it is the grassroots participation of the membership that truly impacts policy decisions within the federal government.

All members of the dental research community should engage with their elected officials regularly, but at least on an annual basis, to communicate the important advances that are being made both nationally and at the local level. Members of Congress, in particular, want to know how federal programs impact their constituents.

Annual AADOCR & FNIDCR Advocacy Day

Each spring, AADOCR partners with the Friends of the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (FNIDCR) to bring dental educators; researchers; students; and other patient advocates to the nation’s capital to connect with members of Congress. The event provides the oral health research community an opportunity to meet with congressional appropriators and other lawmakers about the importance of federal funding for medical and dental research. Registration for Advocacy Day 2023 opens in December 2022.

NAVIGATING ADVOCACY IN ACADEMIA: TIPS AND TOOLS FOR UNIVERSITY FACULTY AND STAFF

Advocacy Toolkit

While college and university faculty are in unique positions to share research and policy analyses with congressional offices, there is often confusion about which types of communication are and are not allowed under university rules.

To help faculty and staff navigate some of those rules and boundaries, AADOCR has created this toolkit to help describe certain nuances of federal advocacy and how to work most effectively with university government relations staff throughout the year.
